James Hirschfeld, trombonist and composer, is a member of The Respect Sextet, Darcy James Argue's Secret Society, and also plays with Ensemble Signal, Ed Rosenberg's Gluegun Optimism and his own group with Ted Poor, Red Wierenga and Ike Sturm. James is accomplished both in classical music and improvised music, and he has a particular interest in electronics and just intonation.

James also serves as the Program Director for the intrepid JACK String Quartet where his partner John Pickford Richards serves as Executive Director and violist.
