Marika Hughes, granddaughter of the great cellist Emanuel Feuermann, was born and raised in NYC. Marika was a regular on Sesame Street long before receiving a Political Science degree from Barnard College. After training at The Juilliard School, she moved into a musical hybrid world, blurring and joining the lines between classical and jazz, experimental and pop
music. A former member of acclaimed chamber groups, 2 Foot Yard and Charming Hostess. In 2011 Marika debuts as a band leader with her release The Simplest Thing. She will also release Afterlife Music Radio - 11 New Pieces for Solo Cello with new compositions written for her by Carla Kihlstedt, Nasheet Waits, Jenny Scheinman, Eyvind Kang among others. Marika has
played or recorded with Mr. Bungle, Xiu Xiu, Carla Bozulich, Vienna Teng, Santana, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, David Byrne, Lou Reed, Ani DiFranco, and Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon.
