The Stone

Website
Borough: East Village, Manhattan
Where: The Corner of Avenue C and 2nd St.

Their Words: The Stone is a not-for-profit performance space dedicated to the experimental and avant-garde.

Our Words: They're not lying, if you want to see experimental music any night of the week, the Stone is the place. "Experimental" is a seemingly broad term, and staying true to that, there are no limits to what you might witness. Founded by saxophone slayer John Zorn, the force behind Masada, Naked City, and a recent winner of the Macarthur Grant, the Stone is booked purely on a curatorial basis. Each month a different artist books the schedule with their favorite bands, and some of their own groups as well. Past curators have been Trevor Dunn, JG Thirwell, Chris Speed, Kenny Wollesen, Billy Martin, Mike Patton, Okkyung Lee, Jim O'Rourke, Steve Coleman, Mary Halvorson, Fred Frith, Theo Bleckman, Vijay Iyer, and more certified mindblowers. This is one of the few places in the city that I'd recommend blindly showing up to a show on any given night and seeing what's being offered.

Music Every Night?: Every night except Mondays. Sets are at 8 and 10 PM

Capacity: 60

Reservations: No

Age Restriction: All ages

Food / Drink: Nothing, but they've been cool with BYOB in the past
